Why the GTM setup wizard sends you to Google Cloud

The built-in installer in Google Tag Manager provisions the server container inside your own Google Cloud project. From then on the bill, the IAM roles, the scaling settings and the image updates are yours. Most sites do not need a cloud project of their own. They need a fast, reliable HTTPS endpoint for their tags on their own domain, and that is exactly what this is.

FAQ

Questions from technical teams

Can it handle Black Friday traffic?

Each container scales with its own traffic, and the loader script is served from an edge cache with a fallback, so a spike in page views does not stall the first request. Plans run up to 25 million requests a month, and an upgrade applies immediately.

Where do the servers run?

You choose per container: Europe (Belgium), US East or Asia (Singapore). Your container stays in the region you picked.

Do I get logs and a preview server?

Yes. Every plan includes a dedicated preview server and a daily request history for the whole billing period, with likely and blocked bots split out. Preview Mode adds 60-minute debug sessions on top.

Can I move a container I already run on Cloud Run?

Yes. Paste the same container config, point your tagging subdomain at us and your tags keep working. Nothing in your web or server container needs to change.

What happens if I outgrow my plan?

Upgrade in a click. The change is prorated and applies straight away, and you can see your usage against the plan every day, so it never comes as a surprise.
